Pupils on the College’s Talent Development Programme visited Loughborough University on Wednesday 21 January to take part in a full day of sports training and development.
The young athletes worked with the university’s experienced sports practitioners who delivered masterclasses on strength and conditioning and nutrition. Loughborough is recognised as an elite training environment with world class facilities and the pupils made the most of the opportunity to benefit from their expertise.
As part of the strength and conditioning session, pupils were supervised in their well-equipped gym while creating their own personalised programmes to build strength and stability. They took a tour of the university’s extensive sports facilities, heard about their sporting offer and gained an insight into life at university. They enjoyed watching a BUCS Rugby game and took advantage of an athlete Q&A where they asked plenty of thoughtful questions. Their final session was focused on nutrition where they discussed macro nutrients and food choices to support performance. It was a very productive day for them all.
The College’s Talent Development Programme supports ambitious student athletes playing at academy, regional and national levels. It provides tailored support including individual mentoring, guest speakers and specialised workshops as well as visits such as the trip to Loughborough University.
In other exciting sports news, and as part of the College’s ongoing commitment to sport, Princethorpe has just unveiled its plans to introduce a new Sixth Form qualification, a Triple Sport BTEC, which will run from September 2026, as well as announcing the news that the all-weather pitch facilities are to be upgraded and resurfaced.
