Sixth Form Students Explored Civil Rights At A-level History Conference

03 Mar

Sixth Form History students attended an academic A-level Civil Rights Conference held at Bloomsbury Baptist Church, in London, on Monday 2 March.

The event brought together leading historians to explore key developments in the American Civil Rights Movement, enriching students’ understanding beyond the classroom. The conference featured a series of expert lectures delivered by renowned scholars specialising in different phases of American civil rights history, including Professor David Olusoga who kindly posed with some of the students and staff for a photo.

The visit provided students with a valuable opportunity to engage with academic historians, deepen their contextual knowledge, and gain fresh perspectives on themes central to their A-level studies. The experience also encouraged critical reflection on how historical narratives are constructed and remembered.

Head of History and Politics, Adelaide Fretwell, said, "Our A-level History students were privileged to hear from such distinguished speakers. The conference provided both academic challenge and inspiration for their continuing study of modern history. Students were motivated, enthusiastic and engaged throughout the day."
