Princethorpe’s Pupils Walk Miles For Mary's Meals

16 Jun

On Sunday 14 June, 32 students from Princethorpe College laced up their boots and took on the challenge of walking 24 miles in seven hours.

Princethorpe’s fundraisers were walking in aid of Mary’s Meals, a charity we have long supported, that provides daily school meals to children in some of the world’s poorest countries.

Their 24 mile route looped around Coventry, starting in Meriden, and following the Coventry Way, before heading to Princethorpe. Taking part were 31 Lower Sixth Formers and one Year 11 pupil. Together, they set off enthusiastically at 8.00am and after a determined effort by them all, everyone successfully completed the sponsored challenge. Zak, Hetty and Maisie were first home, completing the distance in an incredible 7 hours and 6 minutes, an amazing achievement.

On the same day, some of our Year 7 pupils and their families took on their own mini Mary’s Meals challenge, walking five miles through the local Princethorpe countryside to Wappenbury and back. It was Year 7’s first fundraiser for Mary's Meals, and a memorable and enjoyable experience for them all.

Organiser of the events and Head of Sixth Form, Ben Collie, commented, “It was wonderful to see such fantastic support for this important cause, with so many members of our community giving up their time and energy to make the event such a success. Whether you walked, organised, supported, or sponsored, your contribution is greatly appreciated."

Many participants raised funds independently, while others added their sponsorship to our JustGiving page. Together, they have already raised around £10,000, which is an incredible achievement and a testament to the generosity of the Princethorpe community.

Many thanks to all the staff who made the event possible, walking with pupils along the route and manning the pit stops.

Please do consider supporting our walkers as they certainly went the extra mile for our fundraising for Mary's Meals. You can donate here.
