1st VII Netball Team Secure Silver At The Nationals

The College's 1st VII Netball team were on fine form on Monday 2 March securing silver medals at the U18 ISA National Tournament in Nottingham.

The team delivered an outstanding performance, demonstrating skill, composure and excellent teamwork against strong national competition.

The girls stormed through the first round, dominating their group, winning all five matches comfortably. Their determination delivering excellent results against Finborough School 12-9, King’s High School 13-4, Hulme Grammar School 15-2, Leighton Park School 16-5 and Kingham Hill School 20-2. They finished top of Group A and qualified for the afternoon’s Cup competition.  

Their impressive performance carried on into the knockout rounds. In the quarter-finals, they first overcame Ipswich High School with a convincing 19-3 victory. Then, in the semis, they faced Finborough – a team they had narrowly defeated in the group stages. Drawing on their experience, Princethorpe produced an even stronger performance, controlling the game and earning an impressive 17-4 win to book their place in the final.

The final proved to be a highly competitive contest against a very strong Queen Ethelburga's College side. Both teams battled hard in an intense and closely fought match. Despite a determined effort and excellent play throughout, Princethorpe were narrowly defeated 12-9, finishing the tournament as national runners-up.

Head of Girls' Games, Carly Walton, said, "This was a fantastic result for the 1st VII Netball team, who represented the College with pride, resilience and sportsmanship throughout the competition."

Team coach, Jodie Kelsall, added, "This team of girls has gone from strength to strength throughout this season. To see them put in a tournament performance like they did is a testament to their commitment and dedication throughout the year."
