Successful Sixth Form Geography Field Trip

Our Lower Sixth Geographers enjoyed a successful residential field trip to the excellent Cranedale Centre in Kirby Grindalythe in Yorkshire.
During their visit, from Tuesday 20 to Friday 23 January, they conducted field studies on coastal places and regeneration in urban areas, both key topics for their A-level studies. The weather had its moments, but everyone wrapped up well and worked hard to collect and analyse their data.
The students studied coastal landforms at Flamborough Head and visited Skipsea, Mappleton and Hornsea to witness first-hand the brutal power of the sea and the strategies in place to combat it. They practised valuable human geography data collection techniques in Scarborough for their NEA projects and assessed the extent to which the market town of Malton is the ‘food capital of Yorkshire’.
For added excitement and entertainment, the Lower Sixth also had great fun participating in a student-led ‘Traitors’ game where people were banished and murdered, although this did not mean they were allowed to return home!
As always, the trip was an invaluable learning experience that will assist them all in completing their coursework.
Many thanks to the staff who supported the trip.
