College Swimmers Bring Home 12 Medals From The ISA National Swimming Championships

Princethorpe College is celebrating after pupils had a super successful outing at the Independent School Association’s National Swimming Championships. Together, the pupils brought home six Gold, two Silver and four Bronze medals, a fantastic haul.

A team of seven pupils had qualified to swim for the Midlands team and on Friday 1 December they travelled down to the London Aquatics Centre at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to take part.

Year 8, Issey Cleary was on fine form, winning three Gold medals, the first in the 50m Breaststroke in 35.59 seconds and then as part of the team in the 4x50m Medley and Freestyle Relays in team times of 2.15.59 and 2.01.50. Year 9, Charlotte Gower also swam superbly, claiming Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. She finished first in the 4x50m Medley Relay in a team time of 2.11.60 seconds, second in the 100m Freestyle in 1.03.14 and third in the 100m Backstroke in 1.09.49.

Year 10, Ewan Pearce had a great swim to take a Bronze medal in the 4x50m Freestyle Relay in a team time of 1.51.48 seconds, while Year 11, André Onyekwe claimed a Silver medals in the 4x50m Medley Relay in a team time of 1.56.61, and two Bronze medals in the 4x50m Freestyle Relay in a team time of 1.47.00 and the 100m Freestyle in 0.55.95 seconds.

Year 12, Lottie Hunter swan brilliantly to take two Gold medals in the 4x50m Medley and Freestyle Relays in team times of 2.08.95 and 1.54.86 respectively.

Together all of the pupils helped the Midlands team finish in third place overall at the national event.

Foundation Director of Sport, Lee Cassell, was delighted and said, "Our swimmers have traditionally done well in the ISA Swimming Championships, and they have had another really successful outing this year. Well done to everyone who competed in both the National Championships and in the qualifying regional competitions."

Princethorpe pupils swimming for the Midlands team were Year 7s, Leo Warne and Sam McCormick, Year 8, Issey Cleary, Year 9, Charlotte Gower, Year 10, Ewan Pearce, Year 11 André Onyekwe and Year 12 Lottie Hunter.
