Princethorpe Introduces New Pupil Mobile Phone Policy From February 2018

Princethorpe is introducing a new Pupil Mobile Phone Policy from Thursday 1 February. Whilst pupils may bring mobile phones into school, they will not be allowed to use them between the hours of 8.30am and 3.45pm, without the permission of a member of staff. Sixth Formers will be able to use their phones within the confines of the Sixth Form Centre only.

The move was announced to pupils at a Whole School Assembly on Monday 29 January and follows consultation with parents and discussions with staff, pupils and members of the Prefect Body.

Comments Ed Hester, Headmaster, “This move is part of a wider Digital Citizenship programme within the school, which also includes life skills sessions, expert guest speakers and workshops for parents. We have been concerned about the detrimental effects mobile phones can have on all members of the community and these new measures aim to tackle some of the associated problems.

He continues, “The vast majority of our parents have been very supportive of a change and helping their children to better manage their screen time. In the longer term we believe that this will benefit not only our pupils’ learning, health and social interactions, but make them better digital citizens able to use technology and media in a safer, more responsible and effective way.”
