Choral Fun Day 2016 Ends Not With A Bang But With A Roar!
Over 50 young singers from local primary schools joined Princethorpe's Director of Music, Gil Cowlishaw, and team for a Choral Fun Day on Saturday 12 November.
The day started in the Sixth Form Lecture
Theatre with warm ups and stretches to expand the diaphragm and vocal chords
making for a seamless performance at the end of the day.
As well as rehearsing furiously, the youngsters also took part in a scavenger hunt round the College and enjoyed lunch in the Dining Room.
The day culminated in an impressive gala performance of the pieces they had learned in front of an enthusiastic audience of family and friends in the College's Drama Theatre.
At 3.30pm the doors opened for our audience to take a seat in excited anticipation to listen to the day’s activities. The performance started on a high with ‘Canon’ by Thomas Tallis triggering rocking heads and tapping toes. Older Princethorpe pupils from Year 7 to 11, who are involved in the College Choir, joined the children for the day and took to the stage to perform a beautiful version of ‘Ave Verum Corpus’ by Mozart.
The classic Musical Theatre number ‘I Just Can’t Wait To Be King’ from The Lion King, put smiles on everyone’s faces when the children sang “everybody look left, everybody look right” along with Gil Cowlishaw’s added actions for a comedic value. The performance ended on a high with the popular Katy Perry song ‘Roar’ anticipating an early applause, but to everyone’s surprise the song had another fantastic verse to finish.
The afternoon’s performance concluded with light refreshments and the room was buzzing with performers and audience alike discussing their favourite songs and celebrating how well the performance went.
Well done to all the children for hitting the right notes in everyone’s heart, making for a brilliant Saturday Matinee performance.
