“At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.” Princethorpe Remembers

At 11.00am the plaintive cry of ‘The Last Post’ streamed across a damp, November playground. Huddled together as a mark of respect to fallen service men and women stood the Princethorpe Community; searching within the two minutes’ silence for a prayer or a moment of reflection. Listening to Binyon’s familiar verse ‘For The Fallen’ the words did what poetry undoubtedly does best; to crystallise a shared thought within us all: pupil, teacher, groundsman, chef.

This brief, intimate whole school Remembrance Service – held outdoors for the first time – gave voice to the fallen and injured men of the parish whose names were read aloud by Pastoral Deputy Head, Mrs Beth Sharpe.

A wreath was hung at the Pupils’ Entrance by Groundsman, Sergeant Michael Luis and RS Teacher Mr Cyprian Vella. Year 7’s Ben Murray framed the service beautifully with his confident trumpet playing before a final prayer from Headmaster, Mr Ed Hester, bringing the proceedings to a thoughtful close.
