General Introduction
Sixth Form life is essentially a preparation for AS and A2-level examinations, university and ultimately adult life. A time for self-development and fun, we offer a wide range of activities aimed at helping students to become happy, well balanced and successful young people. Residential outward bound courses, training programmes and retreats give students a chance for reflection and exploration. Guest lecturers, debates and theatre outings are all part of a rich and varied experience.
Over twenty subjects are offered at AS-level and A2-level and academic progress is carefully monitored by the Head of Sixth Form and the team of tutors through tutorials and half-termly reports. Students have regular discussions with their teachers and a close partnership is formed.
Independent study, both supervised and unsupervised, is a key feature of Sixth Form life. There is a permanent supervised library study centre and students are encouraged to work independently in the workshops and laboratories. There is also a Common Room for rest and relaxation.
At the appropriate time, guidance and professional careers advice are provided to help students make the best choices about the next stage of their education and career plans.

The culture of the Sixth Form is designed to encourage a more mature and balanced approach to life. Sixth Formers enjoy greater freedom and with it greater responsibility.
Some are democratically elected to perform duties as Prefects, and receive leadership training to help with their personal development and learn valuable management skills. They are also encouraged to mentor younger pupils and organise events for them.
Links with the local community are fostered, students are involved in a variety of projects working with both young and old, helping them to understand the importance of patience, kindness and good humour.
