Students' Views Of Sixth Form Life
Upper Sixth Students Nadine le Cornu, Jamie Moore and Porfiris Kefalas explain what they find so attractive and unique about their Sixth Form.
“It’s all about being made to feel responsible for your own learning,” comments Nadine who is Deputy Head Girl and is studying for a place to read Geography at Reading. "The new facilities have provided us with independent study areas. We are responsible for planning our private study during our free periods. Teachers are on hand to talk things through with them and the whole experience is one that makes you feel valued and yet at the same time independent.”
Jamie Moore has recently starred as Danny in the sell out Sixth Form production of Grease. He is also a First XV rugby player and is currently studying Politics, Philosophy and Ethics and Psychology. "The range of extra-curricular opportunities is awesome. This year I have been on stage performing in front of over 400 people as well as having toured South Africa with the hockey and rugby teams. We’ve recently acquired a new scrum machine and new kits for the first teams. Sport remains a strong feature of Sixth Form life and we are encouraged to play for our teams right up to our exams."
Porfiris Kefalas has been at Princethorpe since Year 9. He is hoping to read Law, also at Reading. "I really like the look of the new Sixth Form building. Everyone was excited watching it being built and we couldn’t wait to start working in it. I think the Sixth Form has a professional feel to it. It’s a grounding for University life and now that we have this space it somehow adds to that step into further education The recreational facilities are great. We have a massive common room and the leather sofas and patio area in the dining room give it a café like atmosphere. Because of this we feel we can really relax and take a proper break from our studies."
