




News - 14/09/2009 - Princethorpe College Student Makes Dance World Championships
Seventeen year old Princethorpe College student Callum Spencer has qualified to compete in the World Irish Dancing Championships to be held in Glasgow in April 2010. The sixth former who only started dancing‘because his younger sister was doing it’ is thrilled with his success.
A member of the Matthews Dance Academy, Callum has been Irish dancing for six years alongside his thirteen year old sister Ailis and brother Alisdair, 15 who are also students at Princethorpe College. He took part in the National Championships held at the Royal College of Music in Manchester and came second earning him automatic qualification into the World Championships. This is Callum’s highest ever placing in a National competition. His performance in the Hornpipe, the Reel and the Set Dance were judged on both technical accuracy but also artistic flair. His teacher, Mrs Jenny Flower was delighted with his success.
Callum continues to study for his A Levels in Physical Education, Biology and Maths alongside his Irish dancing training which can take up to ten hours a week. He aims to read Sports Science at University.
