Record entry for Crackley Cross Country and Show Jumping event sponsored by Green Leisure
Three-hundred riders competed in four classes at the second Crackley Hall equestrian event held at Whitfield Farm, Ettington on Sunday 12 October, where riders experienced unseasonal conditions with glorious sunshine and summer-like temperatures. Competitors from all over the Midlands and south of England converged on Whitfield Farm near Stratford-on-Avon to use the acclaimed cross country course belonging to the Wakeham family, who have strong ties with Crackley Hall.
Winners in the Junior Class were locals from The Croft School inStratford, with the capable and energetic Cokethorpe Chasers taking the Open trophy home. A joint Princethorpe-Kingsley team took second prize in the senior competition.
Organisers Alison Kennedy and Alex Darkes were overwhelmed by the level of subscription. “We initially capped the entry at 240,” said Darkes “to make sure that we could get everyone round in a day. With a bit of creative scheduling we raised this to 300 - still with a big waiting list - but it meant that we had about 8 hours of continuous action,” he added. Alison Kennedy said that she had been much cheered by the response to the event. “We have had so many uplifting e-mails and ‘phone messages since Sunday which has made all the effort feel very worthwhile. We owe a huge debt to staff, parents, pupils and friends of Crackley Hall who put in so much hard work to make the day successful”.
