Modern Foreign Languages
The Modern Foreign Languages Department offers French, Spanish and German in the Sixth Form subject to demand.
Our department is enthusiastic and committed to achieving a high level of success with all our pupils. We are fortunate to have several native speakers working as teachers within the Department. In addition, we benefit from having native speaking assistants and gap tutors who are able to give students extra help, particularly with their oral work, in small groups.
At Sixth Form level, we follow the AQA specifications. Our syllabuses are based on current affairs rather than literature. We use a variety of course books, magazines, websites and newspapers to cover the required topic areas in as interesting and varied manner as possible.
Students are expected to keep up to date with significant events in the target language countries and, with appropriate guidance from staff, to research background material for their essays and coursework.

Extra Curricular
It is important for students to use their languages outside the classroom. Thus we endeavour to offer students a variety of extra curricular opportunities. These vary from year to year but in the recent past have included theatre performances by the Onatti company in French and Spanish, day conferences listening to lectures on relevant topics for Sixth Formers, trips to German Christmas markets, a trip (run in conjunction with the History Department) to Berlin, French Homestay visits and a Sixth Form residential trip to Spain.
