General Studies
All Lower Sixth Form students follow a General Studies programme. The course encourages students to think critically, logically and constructively about significant problems and issues and to demonstrate an ability to evaluate their own thinking.
Topics of historical and contemporary interest are covered. For example:
- modern art versus traditional art?
- should fox-hunting be banned?
- IVF: the real issues.
Students take part in discussions and debates and listen to visiting speakers. Moral and value judgements are discussed, as are the religious and secular sides of moral arguments.
All students sit three AS unit exams in:
- culture, morality, arts and humanities
- science, mathematics and technology
- society, politics and the economy.
In addition under the umbrella of General Studies, students receive essential advice and information about careers, applying to university and other courses, interviews, the world of work, healthy lifestyles and moral choices.
