News - 25/06/2010 - Model Rewards Princethorpe Students’ Passion For Fair Fashion
Princethorpe College students were presented with prizes by model and TV presenter Lisa Butcher for their exceptional campaigning on Fairtrade cotton. Princethorpe Sixth formers were announced as winners of the students campaigning organisation People and Planet’s ‘Wear Fair’ national fashion competition. They received their award from the model at the organisation’s national schools’ event organised in collaboration with Oxfam.
Princethorpe College sixth formers modelled Fairtrade cotton clothes designed by Annie Greeabelle at five consecutive fashion shows to ensure that all students got the message. Their creativity and persistent call for fair fashion pulled them ahead of 15 other schools to win them the award. The students also used the popularity of the shows to persuade the College to stock Fairtrade sports kits.
Assistant Head of Sixth form Mrs Anne Allen commended the students’ achievement.
‘This initiative was very much driven by the students independently. They chose to pursue the issue whilst raising awareness that Fair trade fashion can be stylish whilst improving the lives of thousands of disadvantaged people across the world. We are very proud of all of their efforts.’
