News - 28/05/2010 - College Hockey Player Selected for Wales
Princethorpe College hockey player Tom Czerniewski has been selected to play for Wales. The fifteen year old from Grandborough was invited to trial for the Under 16 squad last month. He played for Wales against the British Asians team and impressed the coaches so much that he was given a place in the Welsh squad.
Already in his third year of playing for Warwickshire, Tom has been quick to make progress having only taken up the sport four years ago. Older brother Alex, 17, took a similar path to success having first played for Wales before joining the England U18 team. Tom describes himself as a ‘team player’ and suggests that one of his major strengths is his capacity to remain calm and composed on the pitch.
‘I’m excited and nervous about playing on the International circuit but hopefully my experience playing for Princethorpe and my club Coventry and North Warwickshire will serve me well in these more competitive games.’
Princethorpe College hockey coach Mr Colin Dexter commented on Tom’s natural flair for the sport.
‘This is terrific news for Tom. He is an all round player who deserves to go to the top. He is an asset to any team that he plays for.’
