Princethorpe College Maths Students took part in World Maths Day on March 3rd. A number of stimulating Maths based activities were enjoyed by a wide range of students including taking part in a world wide maths challenge. The computer based activity allowed pupils to play against maths students from as far away as Dubai and America. Students were encouraged to log the countries in the world that they played against.

Princethorpe Maths Teacher Mrs Tanya Cowan, organiser of the event commented,

‘This is a great opportunity for our pupils to see themselves as part of a global educational community. Our students  recognised that everyone  is working towards excellence in the same field. It also enabled some successful cross curricular links to be drawn with the geography department. This was a wonderful way of raising the profile of Maths in the College.’

Princethorpe students have recently taken part in the UK Intermediary Maths Challenge with 7 gold medals, 15 silver and 30 bronze certificates being awarded. Four Year 10 pupils have successfully qualified for the European Challenge that will take place later this month. Notable successes were Jamie Hawkins, Chris Bond, Joe Stimpson and Clare Renshaw.
